4:40 pm - All Gryphons Great and Small!

All Gryphons Great and Small is a bestiary, a collection of images describing and showing the world of gryphons. Gryphons throughout history have been depicted as strong, majestic, regal creatures- what if they spread throughout the earth and lived among us?

I answer this question through my studies and portraits of the different types of gryphon that would inhabit the different areas of the world!

Explore this journey with me and imagine going to the zoo, nature park or going on safari to witness these strange, fierce and even sometimes silly beasts in their various habitats. Maybe even imagine having one of these beasts in your own home!

Buy my art

You can help support me and my gryphons by buying a print at my RedBubble store.  Postcard prints start at $3, so there is something for everyone.  Anyone buying my Sea Gryphon print will be contributing to help the animals of the oil spill in the Gulf as all proceeds will be donated from sales of this print.

5:22 pm - Log-in TROUBLE

I can't log into the new Guild Board!

1st, it wouldn't take my password, so I had to get a new password sent to my E-mail.

Then, I use the new password, it doesn't work, and then it tells me I've exceeded my tries to loggin for 30 min'! WTF!

Is it always this much trouble??? What's up w/that????

No wonder there's not many new posts on there.

*reluctant sigh*

Anyways, I made my post on the old board: http://gryphonguild.yuku.com/topic/4045

2:48 pm - Open for commissons at a flat rate of £15!

Hello guys, this is Nemo, better known to a lot of you as Hoofy.

Well as much as I hate to admit this, my boyfriend and I are in trouble finanically. Josh was made redundant in January and has only recently gotten a new job, however he doesn't get paid until the end of the month. I earn minimum wage and despite transfering all the money I can across to our joint account, it hasn't covered our council tax, bills or rent for the last month and consequently our rent bounced. Josh has asked to borrow money from his parents but that still means we owe his parents money and basically we are just in a lot of trouble.

So as a result of this, along with taking extra hours at work if they are offered to me, I am opening myself up for FULLY detailed commissons for £15. One flat rate for whatever you want, there is no limit on characters, background or the amount of work you want put in. I will only say no to yiff/sex positions and only because I would really suck at that kind of thing. My strengths lie in fantasy art, especially animal and bird subjects. I am not very good with human characters but I will do my best at them and will not say no. I can do either traditional media with coloured pencil, fine liner or a mixture of both or I can use painter classic. I won't be able to offer a print if I use digital as I don't have the necessary equipment. Postage will be worked out with the client for traditional media but usually doesn't cost more then £1.

I can take paypal or concealed cash, I would prefer it if foreign currency was already exchanged for UK Pounds Sterling if sending via concealed cash. Email me at oceanbornsoulsinger@gmail.com for information with the subject 'Commissions'.

Even if you can't help, please cross post this for me! I would really appreciate it!

Many thanks. ~ Nemo

7:45 pm - Video Tutorials: Wings, Hands, Feet

This entry is from my Dev' Art Journal:

Since I keep getting bombarded with suggestions for doing tutorial videos, and requests for Male hands and feet cheats, I've been mulling it over in my mind.

In fact, I think I might even create some Wing Cheats.

:star: I'm Announcing my Open call for suggestions and requests RIGHT NOW!!!!

:star: Here's my ideas so far:

* I want to make videos to help people with understanding simple and easy ways and techniques to draw Wings, Hands, and Feet.

* I want these tutorials to be VISUAL BASED, and so simple and easy, that ANYONE CAN DO IT.
The reason is because, naturally, ARTISTS are Visual Persons, plus, most people have the Hurry-sickness affliction brought on by modern day speed of technology, internet, computers, advertising, commercials, and so on. People have been dumbed down only to accept pre-digestible things visually and auditory by default in the culture of modern day. NO one seems to have time to sit through reading books, or old style cultural things, so I must do it for you.

* I would also like to create step by step instructional sheets, which are printable, AND FREE, in a Comic book format... also, to learn the information VISUALLY, with less lengthy reading.

:star: I will be discussing the ideas all over the internet, with my friends, associates, and I also plan on asking for suggestions from the members of the "Gryphon Guild" in their forum.

:star: When I plan to create the instructional videos (and/or JPEG graphics for downloading) if you would like to contribute your own graphics to my project, with a question about what you want help with, please submit it, with your permitting to use it.

:star: I plan on scripting my videos as well, and keep them as nice as I possibly can, with the equipment I currently have.

:star: I will also be adding my full detailed information (edited and Proof-read) in case you actually do care to know all the little details about my methods, ideas, credentials and so on.
:star: Any comments and suggestions you do actually type in shall become my property to use, so if you don't want your comments used, send it privately to me and stating you don't want the comments used, Because I will also be using negative comments as well as constructive and positive comments.

:star: I've no real time frame for completing any of this. 'm still going through the ideas and concepts, as well as many other things.

:star: If you have any tutorials you would like to suggest, I welcome the suggestions, and might also highlight a few, if not several, for those whom seriously enjoy learning and serious study (like I do).

:star: A Little Back History:

As you can tell, by now, in the year 2009, I'm still pretty much an underground artist. Even tho' much of my artwork is still stolen and published throughout the world all over the internet, I'm still pretty unknown.

But, around 2003-2006, I was kinda more known in various groups and communities, especially among the Furry Fan Communities.... but, when I stopped doing exclusively ONLY Furries/Anthro's and also had a kid (plus a business) and couldn't afford to attend the conventions (like Anthrocon) anymore, either most people felt slighted, or took offense to my pursuing other arts again (specifically human figures). I took up studying coloring, and even interned for Colorist work at "Top Cow" of "Image Comics" in LA, and got BIG TIME into the new fängled glitter of You Tube, which back then was underground, and now is main stream.

However, I'm still alive here, and I'm going to create more FREE stuff for you guys!

I guess it all started somewhere back in college.

I very much liked Gryphons and wings, and since I was studying animation, I was very interested in drawing things in dynamic poses: hands, arms, and wings, and things with wings.

So, I sketched some drawings of gryphons in my sketchbook. It took me about a weekend or so to mentally visualize it and have that mental visualization translated to the paper as a sketch.

What came out of that were the sketches that created this:

(the year 2000)

I created THIS specific sketch by using my light box on punched animation paper, inked, and colored it by hand, and published it for biffing on the Fur Bid FREE AUCTION Website.

I got the suggestion from my roommate: :iconhalfbreed: ( This means my friend, Hope.)

She suggested it OVER AND OVER, and showed me the website.

So, I posted my auction, and went off to Oklahoma for a week or so, and while I was there, I surprised that I got bid on. I was surprised that I got as much money I actually got for it, also, something like $40, which to me was allot at the time, since I was sooooo poor.

I kept creating things to sell on the website, and noticed that items with my styles of wings would sell better.

Around the time of my graduation from AIPH :iconhalfbreed: were gonna go into joint dealership at the Anthrocon, however, she went through a series of emotional and mental pressures, freaked out literally, and it never happened that year. ( Don't worry, she & I are cool now. )

However, a black & white inked version of 1 of my gryphon was published in the official book for the Anthrocon convention called "The Con Book".

I also created the Inked and digitally colored Photoshop versions of these 2 gryphons:

Since I couldn't sell my stuff that year at Anthrocon 2001, being that my friend disappeared, didn't answer my E-mails or calls, and didn't drive down to Delaware to get me, which I thought was strange since it was her idea, I tried selling stuff on Fur bid again. And, i sold quite afew of them.

So, by 2002, i was married, and became a registered dealer myself at the Anthrocon 2002 in Philly. I made several large Poster sized versions of the griffins, and these 2 griffins were my best sellers along with the Purple Monochromatic "Black Unicorn Poem":

(which has shared similar success in having been stolen and illegally used on the internet without authorization throughout the world)

BTW: :iconhalfbreed: & I made up that year, in the lobby of the Anthrocon! I screamed! she screamed, like teenaged girls at a Beatles Concert! LOL! :rotfl: The we hugged & hung out! :D We also did sketchbook tades. She sketched for me in my book, and vise versa.

By 2003 I had been playing around alot in the Gryphon Guild (because I LOVE Griffins)and I kept getting the same questions and comments about how I drew wings.

To me, I thought it was rather simple, since i figured it out myself, and kept churning it out like it was nothing. That's stupid me! (No, Kandice! Not everyone thinks the same way that you do! Duh!)

Since it seemed like a simple concept, that since I could figure out, why not anyone else? Yet, when I searched for tutorials on anything to do with wings, I couldn't find ANYTHING out there like what I was doing.

So, I wrote my explanation of my way of thinking and approach to my style of exaggerated wings, and exaggerated dynamic poses.

I published my "thesis" here: [link] on my website.

Then, published this with a link to the site:

(I created this on Deviant Art to help people easily find the link)

You can tell by the hits that people are mostly just looking at the pictures, and the stuff that merely jumps out at you, since it's lengthy, and most people are lazy to actually read.

However, I got more thank you letters and on that thesis than anything else I was writing at that time for years. Even to this day, artists whom have read through it and understood the basic concepts tell me the recommend the link to other artists still.

Now, wings are a bit more complex than hands and feet. But, my basis for the wings was based on human arms and hands.

Since the thesis was more of a lengthy read, and I noticed that many people would skip parts of it, plus I was noticing that great artists would still complain about drawing hands, I wondered how could they draw wings if they still had trouble with HANDS?

So, I developed cheat sheets, what I called "hand cheats" or "the cheater's way of drawing hands". (Mainly all Female hands)

The graphics themselves were visual based with minimal texts, and I created a whole series of them; each 1 more advanced than the previous one.

After that, I was bogged with requests for FEET Cheat sheets. So, I created those also.

You can find all of those tutorial type cheat sheets in my gallery if you haven;t seen them already. (I'm sure you have, since those f***ers are my most popular and favorited published works on this site over all of my other artwork. In fact, most days are just favorite after favorite of just those, and maybe someone will favorite a unicorn or a griffin... maybe a dragon... that's about it... or fan art... then more tutorials...)

:star: The point is, here, that back at the turn of this century/millennium when I was online back then, I never saw any of this dynamic wings stuff... but, everyone know it and emulates it now. Yet, somehow, everyone forgot me, and I'm still underground, and still unknown.

But, whatever.... At least I did stuff with the time I had in my life, and this will all be left behind after me.

I don't need to be worshiped to be satisfied with my own work, and feel good about the job I did. I still get the thank-yous from people, and people still add the tutorials to their favorites nearly everyday... or usually every day.

:star: This isn't some Ego trip.
(I'm quite sure I could make this into an entertaining Ego-trip looking thing if that's what you wanted... Like Stephen Colbert... but, he's actually famous... unlike me. )

So, I will be developing my ideas for a video tutorials, and possibly comic books style visuals with panels and pictures.

I'm sure some of the bullies out their will start to rear their heads soon. i got attacked for telling the truth about myself last year online. So, I'm sure it'll eventually happen at some point around here, again....

BTW: I'd like to mention that EVERYTHING WILL BE FREE!!!!!!!!! Videos, graphic downloads, and so on. I might even publish a torrent of it also, that you college kids can easily get!

7:51 am - Newbie prepares for pie bath

Greetings to all. Some of you have seen me in the chat room over the last couple of weeks and I've been lurking on the Gryphon Guild board for a bit longer than that. You see my name here as Kamau but that is my lion name. I'll not go into the full explanation of how I found myself here just now but simply to say that I have been getting a strong tug from a gryphon for some time now. Shortly before Halloween it hit me very strongly and I began a story about a gryphon transformation. At first I took it as just a fun piece but the more I've worked on it the stronger the pull became and so I'm now answering the call and will explore whether the gryphon form has something to say to me or not.

Anyway below is a description of who and what I feel myself to be. Please understand I am still searching to see if gryphon is who I am or if gryphon is a new guide/totem for me. After some reflection on this I have chosen the name Chyr Alyon, derived from Aquila chrysaetos and the archaic English of lion, Lyon. I believe the name fits and works well but I am also open to correction and suggestion. I hope to join and post to the Gryphon Guild board's Newbie Nook soon but I want to try and debug my Gryphon code first and have a bit more narrative description that will encompass all that is asked in the code before I post there.

Hrmph, that was much longer then I had intended. Oh yes, the icon is one of my Gryphon forms from Second Life.

Introduction to Chyr Alyon
Chyr is a gryphon of the lion-eagle type. His fore part is that of a golden eagle while his hind is that of a Barbary lion. His head is the golden brown of the golden eagle with pointed gryph ears and a yellow-golden beak. His eyes are orange in color. He has a black feather mane that begins at the back of his face and falls over his neck ending in the thick course black fur of the Barbary lion. The lion mane flows down his back and belly in the typical Barbary fashion.

Chyr's forelegs are those of the golden eagle, covered in the golden-brown feathers of that bird and ending in large claws with black talons. His wings are those of the eagle as well with their usual golden sheen. His hind quarters has only one feature different from the typical lion. He has a grouping of feathers at the base of his lion tail. These are held tightly together when he is on the ground but when he takes to the air fan out into a broad tail aiding him in controlling his flight. Other then that his lion body is a dark tawny color with a black tuff of fur at the end of his tail. This combination makes him a skilled flyer. He can carve the sky in ways that amaze others but has never considered himself one of the best. Rather he simply feels skilled enough to teach others and be a hard target in a fight.

In size Chyr is somewhat larger than a draft horse and could easily have a human ride behind his massive neck if he would allow them to do so. While Chyr is far from a hatchling he still has many good years before him and in many ways is young at heart. This shows most in those moments when he engages in RP or tosses food, such as a banana cream pie, at others. While he can be crazy in a good sense he is usually calm and level headed. There are rare occasions and certain situations that can push him too far however and it is best not to be on the receiving end of his wrath if ever it is released for few survive to tell about it.

Like many of his kind he favors meat for his meals but will occasionally fancy some plants as a change of pace. He is not overly protective of his food and will share with others however ask first or you will feel his claws. He is fond of gold but is not a glutton about it. He has nicely filled his nest with the stuff and has a nice ring of it within his Eyrie, preferring to sleep on something softer. While his attitude toward collecting gold is not great it would be unwise for anyone to try and take a sample of what he has.

He has no magic that he is aware of and in the wooded mountains that he calls home it is unusual to find any gryphs that do have the magic art. He does have some Psi that if exercised might grow.

Chyr is tolerant to all, sometimes to a fault and often welcomes newcomers. He is comfortable and enjoys being in groups but he is usually found hanging out with a group of close friends. He does however need time to himself and so will withdraw on occasion to refresh himself. Chyr has no WingSibs here and is somewhat of a shy type about such things anyway. He once did have one he considered a soulmate but he died some years ago. He has never mated and is single by choice desiring to live a celibate life.

Hello this is my first post,

I'm a full time sculptor who does alot of fantastical beasts.  Gyrphons have always been a mainstay in my work even though at conventions it's frequently remarked that 'not many people do them anymore'.  Whatever, I've always liked 'em :)

I recently uploaded some new gryphons on my site  and i'm just about to do the painting on much larger one than the two pictured (probably priced at about $150), if anyone is interested i'd be happy to send photos and take requests on painting her - I do alot of comission work.

thanks for looking

7:56 pm - New Bush Gardens Ultimate Dive Coaster: Griffon!!!!

Set amid a French village, Griffon carries riders up 205 feet, then hurtles them 90 degrees straight down at 70 mph. And that’s just the beginning.

Griffon evokes the power and speed of a mythical bird that is part eagle and part lion. It plunges, twists and turns – giving riders an adrenaline-pumping adventure that’s unlike any coaster experience in the world.

Currently under construction, this diving, driving force in roller coaster engineering will debut at Busch Gardens May 25.

Dude! I wanna ride this thing!!!!!

Anyone heard of it before???

3:51 am - Self Portrait

Auslander makes an appearance inside my self portrait project. Here are the sketches (next comes coloring... after that upper right corner gets fixed)

Here's a detail of Auslander (click for full view):

And click here so you can place her detail inside the whole context...

Even if I had a scanner, this is 19 by 24 inches and thus much too big to scan- so I apologize for the weird pixels and lighting. Even "good" cameras despise any mostly-white surface.

By far the most detailed large drawing I have undertaken. It's been an adventure so far...
